Boat Trip!

A couple of old friends came to visit last week, which gave us the perfect excuse to go for a boat ride. At first, the morning was overcast and we didn't think that visibility would be great, but still... the water was calm... it was calling us.

After about 30 minutes, the dense cloud cover started to lift. I really like clouds, they add so much drama to the big sky we have here, on the water.

Above: Like a dotted line, a group of geese heads South.
At the end of September, birds are on the move. Someone told me she saw some harlequin ducks last week. Migrations have begun.

Just South of Pender island, we encountered a small group of killer whales (orcas) that was looking for breakfast. Our captain described them as "milling"... We were lucky - we spotted them early, before the gaggle of other boats showed up. So we had some quality time with them. This was an unexpected treat.
It was hard to leave them but after a while, we got underway and headed for home, or rather the Pub. All that fresh air... does make you hungry!
